Theatre in Japan, much the same as their other individual cultural elements, developed far from the influence of the West for much of their history. The most well known Japanese performance traditions that exist to this day are Noh, Kabuki, Bunraku, and Kyogen. This website is the container for research into Bunraku, the puppet theatre of Japan, and Kyogen, a comic form derived from and contrasting the more serious Noh
